Switch-Tronic is the name for a manual shift function on Alpina cars with automatic transmissions. It was introduced in 1992. When Switch-Tronic technology was introduced, it was revolutionary as it was the first to offer manual operation for automatic transmissions fitted to production vehicles. Currently, the vehicle manufacturer extensively uses the gearbox for its models, since Switch-Tronic offers not only the possibility of manual switching, but also special firmware that adapts the motor to the driver's wishes.

Like Switch -Tronic works
Switch-Tronic is based on a traditional automatic transmission with a torque converter and planetary gear sets. Thanks to the special firmware, the gearbox works in different modes. It is set by default for comfortable driving. If necessary, the driver can switch to Sport mode, allowing gear changes to be carried out faster and at higher engine speeds. The manual mode is intended for even more dynamic driving. This allows for instant switching. In manual mode, the transmission can be conveniently controlled using shift paddles.
